New Delhi, October 12, 2026: The Citizens for Fraternity Forum (CFF), an organisation representing civil society members, has written to the Delhi Police expressing concern over an alleged disruption near Gurudwara Bangla Sahib during a protest. The forum has urged authorities to investigate the incident, address the concerns raised and make their findings public.
In its letter, the forum called on the concerned authorities to take timely action and communicate the outcome of the investigation, along with any corrective measures. The letter was also sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Commission for Minorities Chairperson Harjit Singh Grewal.
Delhi Police Registers FIR Following DSGMC Complaint
The development follows the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) by Delhi Police after a complaint from the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC). The complaint names Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and legislators, including Arvind Kejriwal, in connection with an alleged protest near Gurudwara Bangla Sahib and the circulation of videos and social media posts described as misleading by the complainant.
Police have initiated an investigation and are examining video footage submitted with the complaint. The allegations remain subject to investigation.
DSGMC Raises Concerns Over Protest Near Religious Site
DSGMC President Harmeet Singh Kalka previously expressed concern over the alleged actions of AAP workers near the gurdwara. He said the incident had caused resentment within the Sikh community and confirmed that the committee had lodged a police complaint.
According to Kalka, some individuals allegedly entered the area near the gurdwara, displayed banners and posters, and raised slogans. He maintained that such activities were inappropriate given the religious significance of the site.
Kalka also raised concerns about the presence of police personnel in the area and said the committee had asked the Deputy Commissioner of Police to instruct personnel to avoid entering the gurdwara premises in uniform.
He acknowledged that the area outside the premises was a public thoroughfare and that police personnel had not entered the gurdwara itself, while urging restraint in view of the prevailing situation.
Civil Society Forum Seeks Transparency and Corrective Action
The Citizens for Fraternity Forum has called for the concerns surrounding the incident to be addressed promptly and transparently. Its appeal comes as the police investigation continues into the complaint filed by the DSGMC.
The investigation is expected to examine the available evidence and the circumstances surrounding the alleged disruption. Further developments will depend on the findings of the authorities.
